April 4 - Phnom Penh, Cambodia

As I had returned from Laos on March 7 I had to leave the country by April 6, March being a 31 day month.  I can only be here 30 days without going out.  We decided to go to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, for the day.  We left the hotel by 6  and headed to the airport again.

Only a short flight again but Brian fell asleep

First view of Cambodia from the plane.

We had quite a time getting into the country.  They acted like they had never had people like us come in before.  We had to get tourist visas for the day.  They were so slow that I thought we might not get out of the airport before we had to fly back

They drive on the same side of the road from the same side
of the car as we do in America.
I thought Thai traffic was bad until I went to Cambodia.  I'm sure
glad we rented a cab and driver for the day, $50.  He took
us where we wanted to go and waited for us to get done and
back to the car.  No complaints however long the stop took.

International Market
Litterly hundreds of little tables and stands set up so you can
buy almost anything.

History Museum

Gateway to the temple where the king goes.
One died recently and was cremated here.

King's Palace

Where the king and queen sit to watch boat races.

A cruise boat taking off for a 2 week trip to Vietnam

View from the cafe where we ate

Moss covered fountain by our table
Not a good picture of B or B but I wanted you to see
the fountain.

Another view from the cafe

Man playing one of their instruments while we ate

Dishes made of banana leaves for dipping sauces.
I had a very good hamburger.  The beef was top quality
with minced onions and some very good spice in a bun
with letuce, tomato, onion and dill pickle.

From here we went to a place where Batty had a massage
and I had a manicure.

There is quite an American influence.  Much is written in English.
It would have been easier there if we would have had American
dollars than the Thai baht.  My American credit card was OK but Batty's
Thai one was not.

The shorter building in front is the US Embassy

In front of a temple with a lot of steps.
They are getting ready for some celebration so
much work was being done.

Some friendship  building

The pizza we got at the airport for our supper.
It came with spaghetti, garlic bread and chicken wings.

Off to Bangkok again and our hotel.  Pan had stayed back as he does not have a passport.  A friend came and stayed with him.  We got in about 9 PM, went to the hotel.  Batty and Brian went back to the airport about midnight as Bert was getting in then.
