Foods

Thought I would make a seperate post of some of the foods here.  Some of these you have seen in other posts but thought I would put them all together.  Some I posted on facebook are on other cameras than mine.  Will try to get them here.

                                                                          Dragon Fruit
The seeds are like poppy seeds.

Queen of Fruit
There are little sections much like an orange.
A couple of the sections will have a large seed in them.

The lunch I had during camp day at school
Fried rice, local grown corn & Queen of Fruit

A meal here at home
local grown corn, the ever present soup and
another hot dish (by hot I mean spicy), pastry a lady brought to me
the one looks like a rosette and tastes like it
rice cakes in the top right

Chicken soup and warm milk
brought to me when I had the first bout with
Asian Revenge

Lunch on the river
bottom left is an "omlet" other dishes with squid
and shrimp and of course the soup

At the outdoor market
Long beans, lemons and some of their herbs

Red and white onions and herbs

Eggs
I have never seen them refrigerated even in a grocery store
or home.
100 baht is $3.00 so a flat of eggs is about $3.00

Fresh fish
Mackerel or Tialapia

Peppers, onions, garlic

Peppers drying in a nighbor's shed

Tapioca pancakes

Mushrooms growing at the school
They have many types of mushrooms that they use
but the school grows this one

When you get a sandwich it is shaped like this, no crusts
some are triangular.  They are usually put in a press and the
sides are sealed.

Jack Fruit
The fruit is taken out of the coverings like in the
piece to the left.
It is a big fruit and this is only a piece of it

Lhong is holding the piece up so you can see what
the outside looks like

Dried squid
You go up to the hanger and select the one you want
and buy it by the size.
Does not look good to me so did not try it.

My lobster dinner
Butter and garlic over the top.

Noodles, noodles, noodles
every shape and length but usually made of rice

Drying red onions
These have dried a while and the roots on the bottom
have been dut off.

Purple sweet potato
Tastes like ours

Part of breakfast in hotel
Yes, salad veggies for breakfast
All 3 meals of the day are similar with raw veggies, some type
of soup and meat, usually fish, chicken, and/or pork

One of 4 hot dishes at hotel breakfast
They call the item on the right sausages
we call them mini hotdogs or weiners.

Another soup in a cafe
This pan is brought out with broth in it and put on a burner.
We then add the ingredients and cook them at our table.

Batty rolling a bamboo shoot mixture in banana leaves.

They are then steamed.

Pri pealing fruit from bamboo.

A breakfast at Toon's house.
Her sister told me not to eat what is in the 3 little bowls
and the 2 below them.  She said it would hurt my stomach.
They really like spicy foods.
She had made me an omlet and the fried side pork in
the larger dish.
The greens reminded me of grass but are herbs they eat.

A neighbor sells this tastey refreshing dish.
In 100 degree weather this ice, fruit, bread, jello dish
sure is good.
